J.P.'s Fantastic Medieval Game
A downloadable game
J.P.'s Fantastic Medieval Game (JPFMG) is a "quick-start" tri-fold pamphlet for the current version of Dungeons and Dragons (5E). I made this to ease my students into the game, using only the core of the game (6 stats, HP, AC, d20 rolls, DC, Advantage/disadvantage, character advancement, etc.). The game is to be played mostly as one-shots in 45 - 90 minutes. The game was inspired by the following: 5E, Dungeon Crawl Classics by Goodman Games, Deathbringer by Professor Dungeon Master, Shadowdark by Kelsey Dionne, and many others.
I took some liberties, though. The two biggest changes are: 1) No rest. Your HP resets at the end of combat (granted you survived it). Nothing breaks immersion in a 60-minute one-shot than taking a long rest. 2) No magic - instead there's alchemy. You don't play a wizard, you are a scholar. You don't cast magic from scrolls, you mix different (medieval "authentic") ingredients to create different alchemical effects.
